SpartanNash Honors Independent Grocers

SpartanNash celebrated eight independent grocers’ achievements during its 2024 Food Solutions Expo, held last month at DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids.

The SpartanNash “Core Behavior” award winners are:

  • Leppinks Food Centers: This grocer earned recognition as Michigan Grocer's Outstanding Retailer. It was recognized for its local community sponsorships and annual customer appreciation events.
  • Fresh Encounter, Inc.: Following a tornado warning, an associate took immediate action to keep shoppers and other team members sheltered safely. After being hit by the tornado, the store reopened two weeks later.
  • Nilssens Foods: The company invests in store remodels, earning recognition as the 2023 Grocer of the Year in the Wisconsin Grocers Association. It also donated over $42,000 to the local community through an annual golf tournament.
  • Fate's Market: Recognized for its 102nd Anniversary Sale parking lot party, creative marketing materials and more.
  • Leevers Foods: Honored for being a leader in creating tag concepts for electronic shelf labels, thereby reducing labor and waste and streamlining pricing and accuracy.

Additionally, three retailers received “Performance Awards” for their commitment to providing shoppers with “spectacular” value and quality with private label products:

  • Randy's Neighborhood Market: Large Market Size Winner
  • Town & Country Supermarkets: Mid-Market Size Winner
  • Cahoy's General Store: Small Market Size Winner
