According to Coresight Research, about 45% of the 3,597 store openings that large retail chains in the United States have announced in 2021 are from Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar.
This is continuing evidence of the rapid growth of dollar stores over the past few years. As Americans struggled economically during the pandemic, many turned to discount stores to save money and relieve pressure on family budgets. Now with fears of rising inflation that trend might continue or even grow in 2021 as more consumers find dollar stores appealing.
Dollar General lead with 1,035 new stores planned, while Dollar Tree with 393 and Family Dollar with 198 came in second and third, respectively. Some of the other retailers who are planning to open stores in 2021 include Five Below (158), Casey’s General Stores (132), Aldi (100) and Burlington (92). Coresight gathered the information from company press releases and company reports and filings.
